Activities 1–3 above are all on the Ile Ste Hélène, easily accessible from the Jean Drapeau Métro stop on the Yellow line.

  2. Year-round ice skating at the Bell Ampitheatre, 1000 de la Gauchetière West (Metro Bonaventure) Skate rentals. Details and rates: 514-395-0555.
  3. LaserQuest, a 25 minute game of hide-and-seek mixed in with a little seek-and-destroy. 1226, rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest. 514-393-3000.

  7. The Complexe DesJardin fountain, metro Place Des Artes. (The linked photo shows the fountain quiescent; but the fountain really does shoot up almost to the roof, every five minutes or so.) The fountain level of the Complexe has a food court, and Chinese grandparents often sit on the benches and watch the kids charging round the floor when the fountain is low, and gazing upward in awe when it isn't.]
  8. Montreal Science Centre (Old Port, Metro Place D'Armes, then walk) Admission: starts at C$7 for children 4-12. Opening hours: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
